MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Redshirt junior guard Tynice Martin of the West Virginia University women's basketball team has been named the Co-Big 12 Player of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday. She shares the honor with Baylor's Juicy Landrum.
It marks the fourth weekly award of her career. She was previously named the Big 12 Player of the Week as a sophomore on Feb. 13, 2017, and twice earned Big 12 Freshman of the Week accolades on Jan. 11, 2016, and Jan. 19, 2016.
Martin averaged 20.5 points and 38.0 minutes per game to lead West Virginia to a pair of Big 12 wins last week. She posted 21 points in the team's 67-58 win over Oklahoma State at the WVU Coliseum, hitting nine shots from the field to shoot 50 percent. Martin added a trio of 3-pointers as she led the team in scoring.
On Sunday, she netted a team-best 20 points to lead WVU to a 66-55 triumph of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma. Martin went 7-for-14 from the field and made four 3-pointers, registering four steals in 40 minutes. Her scoring output put her at 20 career 20-point games.
Martin is the fourth Mountaineer honored with a Big 12 weekly award this season. Senior forward Naomi Davenport and senior guard Katrina Pardee have previously earned Big 12 Player of the Week accolades, while freshman guard Madisen Smith garnered Big 12 Freshman of the Week honors earlier this season.
The Mountaineers return to the court on Wednesday when they host Iowa State in a 7 p.m. tipoff at the WVU Coliseum.
