Mountaineers Return to the Court

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team began its 2018 season on Monday, returning to the court for preseason practices at the WVU Coliseum.
"I'm really excited to get this year started," fourth-year coach Reed Sunahara said. "We have a good mix of veterans and newcomers, so we're working to get everyone on the same page. Preseason is another opportunity to get one percent better every day, and I'm looking forward to stepping out on the court tomorrow for our first practice."
A total of 10 letterwinners, including two starters, return to the Mountaineers this season. WVU also is set to welcome nine newcomers to the program. The squad is coming of a 21-win campaign in 2017 and an appearance in the National Invitational Volleyball Championship (NIVC) Semifinals. West Virginia finished the year with 21 wins for the first time since a 26-11 season in 1991, the only time before 2017 that the Mountaineers made the postseason. WVU also closed the 2017 regular season winning three of its last four Big 12 matches, most notably upsetting No. 14 Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas, to capture its first-ever win over a top-25 opponent.
Mountaineer fans can get a sneak peek of the squad on Saturday, Aug. 18, when the team holds an exhibition matchup against Duquesne at the WVU Coliseum. First serve is set for 1 p.m. West Virginia opens the 2018 season with the annual WVU Invitational from Aug. 24-25, welcoming Georgia Southern (Aug. 24, 10 a.m.), UConn (Aug. 24, 7 p.m.) and Wright State (Aug. 25, 3 p.m.) to Morgantown.
Fans can purchase tickets to each of the 15 regular-season matches by visiting WVUGAME.com, calling 1-800-WVU-GAME or at the Mountaineer Ticket Office, located at the Gold Gate of the WVU Coliseum. All tickets are general admission.
When purchasing online, tickets are $5 each, while tickets are $3 for groups of 10 or more.
