MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University rifle coach Jon Hammond announced today that Jared Eddy will join the Mountaineers for the 2018-19 season.
A native of Columbus, Georgia, Eddy is a two-time Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) National Championship participant.
"We're excited to have Jared join the team," Hammond said. "I think he brings a lot of enthusiasm and drive to the sport, as well as a great work ethic. There's always great potential for a student-athlete who has passion for the sport.
"Jared wasn't on our radar until about 12 months ago, but he's made a lot of progress and has worked really hard. We hope to provide a great environment for him to keep growing and improving."
Most recently, Eddy finished eighth in the junior men's 50m rifle 3-positions at the 2018 USA Shooting National Championships in Fort Benning, Georgia. He placed 24th in the overall competition and finished second in the High Collegiate B category with a 2280 mark. In the junior men's air rifle competition, Eddy finished 16th and also placed second in the High Collegiate B category.
At the CMP National Championships, Eddy placed third in 2017 and fifth in 2018 following a first-place finish at the CMP Anniston Regional Championship.
A two-time captain of the Columbus High rifle team (2017, 2018), Eddy finished second at the 2018 Georgia State Championships. Named to the 2018 Eley All-America High School Team, he also earned All-State recognitions in 2017 and 2018.
The son of Peter and Doreen Eddy, he has three sisters.
