MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (July 16, 2018) – The West Virginia University women's basketball team will play six games inside the WVU Coliseum, a pair in The Bahamas and one each in Pittsburgh and Charleston, West Virginia, as part of the team's 2018-19 nonconference schedule, as announced by Director of Athletics Shane Lyons.
Fans will get a sneak peek of the team on Oct. 28 when the Mountaineers host West Liberty at the WVU Coliseum in an exhibition game.
The 2018-19 season will officially get underway on Tuesday, Nov. 6, when WVU hosts Coppin State at the Coliseum. The Mountaineers are 10-0 all-time against the Eagles, including a 101-43 win last December. The 2018-19 season marks the sixth straight meeting for the two.
NJIT travels to Morgantown on Sunday, Nov. 11. WVU leads the all-time series 1-0 after grabbing a neutral-site win in November 2008.
The Mountaineers will face Bryant on Thursday, Nov. 15, at the Coliseum. Though it may be the first-ever contest between the two, WVU is no stranger to the Northeast Conference, boasting a 28-2 all-time mark against the league.
WVU travels to Bimini in The Bahamas for the 2018 Junkanoo Jam on Nov. 23-24. The Mountaineers face Iowa on Friday, Nov. 23, and will take on either Florida State or Eastern Kentucky on Saturday, Nov. 24.
The Big 12/SEC Challenge returns to the WVU Coliseum in early December. WVU's game date and opponent are expected to be announced on Monday, July 23. The team follows the challenge with a rivalry matchup as the Mountaineers travel to Pitt for the Backyard Brawl on Saturday, Dec. 8. After a five-year hiatus, the series resumed last December with WVU picking up a 73-52 win.
The Mountaineers will see Eastern Kentucky, potentially for the second time of the season, on Saturday, Dec. 15, at the Charleston Civic Center in Charleston, West Virginia. The Mountaineers and the Colonels are tied 2-2 in the all-time series, though WVU has won the previous two meetings (2009, 2012). West Virginia boasts a 24-11 all-time mark at the Charleston Civic Center.
A three-game homestand will close nonconference play starting on Tuesday, Dec. 18, against Morgan State. The Mountaineers evened the series against the Bears with an 84-41 victory last season. Thursday, Dec. 20, when the Mountaineers welcome Towson to town, looking to expand on their 4-0 series lead. Following a holiday break, WVU wraps up nonconference play on Saturday, Dec. 29, against Niagara at home. It will be the first meeting between the two.
Game times and television coverage, along with the 2018-19 Big 12 Conference schedule, will be announced at a later date.
