MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Five members of the West Virginia University rowing team received the 2018 Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Scholar-Athlete Award.
Senior Jacqueline Spiropoulos (sociology and anthropology), juniors Carly Ledbetter (graphic design), Kaitlin Sullivan (nursing) and Elizabeth Young (history) and sophomore Lize Morris (nursing) were named CRCA Scholar-Athletes.
"Congratulations to our three captains and their teammates who have been recognized as Scholar-Athletes," coach Jimmy King said. "The time and effort that these students put into their sport is surpassed only by what they put into their academics. I commend and thank each of them for their contributions to our team."
This marks the third consecutive year that Jacqueline Spiropoulos has earned CRCA Scholar-Athlete honors. Ledbetter and Young earned the recognition for the second time in their careers. The award marks the first for Sullivan and Morris.
To earn CRCA Scholar-Athlete honors, student-athletes must maintain a GPA of 3.5 or better and have participated in at least 75 percent of the team's scheduled competitions. Eligibility also is limited to student-athletes in their sophomore, junior and senior seasons.
