
Cashin Earns Academic All-District Honor

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Redshirt senior Amy Cashin of the West Virginia University track and field and cross country teams has been named to the 2017-18 Google Cloud Academic All-District 2 Women's Track/Cross Country Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Academic All-District Teams
The honor is the third straight for Cashin, who advances to the Google Cloud Academic All-America ballot, with Google Cloud Academic All-America teams scheduled to be announced in June.
Cashin, an Academic All-America Second Team selection in 2016-17, boasts a 4.0 grade point average (GPA) while pursuing a Master's degree in counseling. The Werribee, Victoria, Australia, native graduated with a bachelor's degree in sports and exercise psychology, with a double minor in psychology and athletic coaching, in 2017. She previously earned Academic All-District honors in 2015-16 and 2016-17.
A three-time national qualifier, Cashin earned All-America Second Team honors at the 2018 NCAA Indoor Championships in March, finishing ninth in the women's mile. Last week, Cashin qualified for the 2018 NCAA Outdoor Championships for the second time in her career. She will compete in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase semifinals on June 7, in Eugene, Oregon, after earning All-America Third Team honors with a 19th-place finish in the event last year.
Cashin earned an 11th-place finish in the steeplechase at NCAA East Preliminary Round, on May 25, in Tampa, Florida, to again qualify for the national meet. She broke her own school record in the steeplechase at the Penn Relays on April 26, earning a first-place time of 9:59.40 and becoming the first Mountaineer woman to break the 10-minute barrier in the event.
Cashin was named to the 2017 United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Cross Country Team in January and earned All-Big 12 and All-Mid-Atlantic Region honors in cross country this past fall. She also earned All-Big 12 status in track and field this season with a second-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (outdoor) and fifth-place finish in the women's 3,000-meters (indoor).
Additionally, Cashin was a member of WVU's fourth-place distance medley relay team at the 2018 Big 12 Indoor Championship, which also earned all-conference accolades. In all, she has earned All-Big 12 distinction seven times during her track and field career (indoor and outdoor) and is a six-time Academic All-Big 12 selection (track and cross country).
Cashin earned WVU's most prestigious student honor, the Order of Augusta Award, in 2017. The 2017 Big 12 Women's Track and Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year winner also is a recipient of the Dr. Gerald Lage Academic Achievement Award, the Big 12's highest academic honor. Cashin has also been featured on the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll, Garrett Ford Academic Honor Roll, President's List and Dean's List.
