The two Mountaineers competed in the women's 10,000-meter run semifinal, as Hill finished 29th in 35:51.37. Forsey placed 40th in 36:48.22. The top-12 finishers from the event advanced to the NCAA Outdoor Championships, from June 6-9, in Eugene, Oregon.
Thursday marked Forsey's second career appearance at the East Prelims after previously participating in 2016. Hill made her debut in the regional meet.
"These kids were tough out there," WVU coach Sean Cleary said. "The heat and humidity wreaked havoc on this race. Our kids, in my opinion, ran very smart by sitting back and waiting for the race to unfold before charging home over their last laps. Both Olivia and Jill beat their NCAA ranking and ran with desire over the last few laps.
"Overall, Jill has done a wonderful job coming back after 15 months away from the sport, while Olivia took full advantage of this opportunity. With two years remaining, we will surely see her continue to improve."
Forsey and Hill are two of WVU's five East Prelims participants. Competition at the USF Track & Field Stadium continues Friday, as senior Sara Finfrock and redshirt junior Madelin Gardner are set to compete in the first round of the women's pole vault at 9:30 a.m. ET, while redshirt senior Amy Cashin will race in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase quarterfinal at 8:40 p.m.
Cashin will make her fourth career appearance at the East Prelims and enters the competition ranked No. 12 nationally in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Gardner, who also competed in the pole vault competition at the East Prelims last year, ranks No. 6 nationally in the event. Finfrock is set to make her regional-meet debut.
Live stats are available for the meet at ncaa.com. Additionally, FloTrack will provide a live video stream of the East Prelims, with a subscription, at flotrack.org. Additional information can be found at the event's online headquarters.
The five qualified Mountaineers ranked in the top 48 of the NCAA East Region in their respective events to earn entry into this week's meet.
