
Five Earn All-District Academic Honor

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Five West Virginia University student-athletes were named to the 2017-18 Google Cloud Academic All-District 2 Men's and Women's At-Large Teams, as announced today by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Junior Will Anti (rifle) was named to the men's team. Seniors Amelie Currat (swimming and diving) and Elizabeth Gratz (rifle), as well as juniors Paula Goetz (tennis) and Ginny Thrasher (rifle), landed on the women's team.
The honor is the third straight for Gratz and the second in as many seasons for Anti, Currat and Thrasher.
The five Mountaineers advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America ballot, with Google Cloud Academic All-America teams announced in June.
A two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American and a first-team honoree in 2017, Gratz graduated last weekend with a 4.0 grade point average (GPA) in marketing. The two-time reigning Elite 90 Award winner for NCAA Rifle, Gratz also earned four Great America Rifle Conference (GARC) Scholar-Athlete honors at WVU and was named to the last three Academic All-Big 12 At-Large First Teams. A four-time College Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) All-Academic Team honoree, she is a member of the President's List, the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll and the Garrett Ford Academic Honor Roll. She capped her WVU career with the 2018 Dr. Gerald Lage Academic Achievement Award, the Big 12 Conference's highest academic honor.
Gratz finished second in air rifle at the 2018 NCAA Rifle Championships. The Sigel, Illinois, native helped the Mountaineers capture three NCAA titles from 2015-17 and four GARC Championships from 2015-18. An eight-time National Rifle Association (NRA) All-American, she also is a four-time CRCA All-American. Gratz earned the 2018 GARC Outstanding Senior award and received 12 career All-GARC recognitions.
Thrasher, a 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team honoree, lands on the All-District list boasting a 3.90 GPA in biomedical engineering. A three-time member of the CRCA All-Academic Team and a two-time Academic All-Big 12 At-Large First Team honoree, she also has been named to the President's and Dean's Lists, as well as the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll and the WVU Academic Honor Roll.
A native of Springfield, Virginia, Thrasher captured the GARC air rifle and smallbore individual titles this season. A six-time NRA All-American, the 2016 Olympic Gold Medalist also is a three-time CRCA All-American and has earned nine career All-GARC awards.
A native of Dunkerque, France, Currat was a 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team honoree. A finance major, she graduated last weekend with a 3.97 GPA. Currat was named the Big 12 Women's Swimming and Diving Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive season in 2017-18, the first swimmer to win the honor twice in conference history.
Currat is a three-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection and a recipient of the Dr. Gerald Lage Academic Achievement Award. She also has been named to the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll, Garrett Ford Academic Honor Roll, President's List and Dean's List.
Currat earned All-Big 12 First Team honors at the 2018 Big 12 Championship. She registered six silver medals at the conference meet, including second-place finishes in the 100 and 200 backstroke and four runner-up relay finishes. Currat was a member of two school record-breaking relay teams at WVU – 200 free (1:31.53) and 400 medley (3:37.43) – and owns the school record in the 100 back (53.50).
In all, Currat is featured on the Mountaineers' all-time top-10 list in eight different events, including four individual events – 100 back (first), 200 back (second), 100 fly (sixth) and 200 free (seventh).
A native of Fort Benning, Georgia, Anti is majoring in finance and accounting and shows a 3.89 GPA. A two-time Academic All-Big 12 At-Large First Team honoree, he is a five-time All-GARC honoree and has been named to the CRCA All-Academic Team three times. Anti also has landed on the President's and Dean's Lists, as well as the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll and the WVU Academic Honor Roll.
Goetz is the first WVU tennis player to earn CoSIDA All-District honors since Catherine Koontz and Ashley Constantine in 2006. An industrial engineering major, she maintained a 4.0 GPA in the fall.
Goetz is a two-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team honoree after receiving the award for the second straight year in 2018. For her work in the classroom, she also earned Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athlete honors twice and was named to the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll, Garrett Ford Academic Honor Roll and the President's List.
A native of Rottenburg Am Neckar, Germany, Goetz tied for the team lead with 10 wins in doubles play this year, while also adding five wins in singles play, including a match-clinching win against Duquesne.
