MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Several weeks after a runner-up finish at the Furman Intercollegiate, the West Virginia golf team travels to Kannapolis, North Carolina, for the Cabarrus County Irish Creek Collegiate at the Club at Irish Creek on Saturday and Sunday.
Charlotte and Davidson will host the 54-hole event at the par-72, 7,099-yard course. The event will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, with golfers playing 36 continuous holes. The final 18 holes will tee off at 8:30 a.m. Sunday.
No. 15 Clemson, No. 4 Georgia Tech, Middle Tennessee, No. 35 Kansas, No. 29 North Florida, UNCG, James Madison, VCU, Indiana, Akron, Dartmouth and Dayton will join the Mountaineers, 49ers and Wildcats. WVU is paired with Clemson, Davidson and UNF for the first round.

Matthew Sharpstene's experience here during his junior golf days will pay off. It should be another challenging weekend of golf looking ahead to the forecast, especially on Saturday, so we have to be ready to play in adverse conditions."

Matthew Sharpstene will play the third spot in the lineup. Sharpstene, who attended T.C. Roberson High in Asheville, ranks third on the team with a scoring average of 73.24 with a trio of top-20 finishes on the season.
Coming off a third-place finish at Furman,
Etienne Papineau will play in the No. 1 spot for the Mountaineers. He ranks second on the team with a scoring average of 73.16, boasting a low round of 68 on the year.
Max Sear will as No. 2 and leads the team with a 72.56 scoring average. Additionally, he has six top-20 finishes this season and most recently took sixth at Furman.
Tristan Nicholls and
Mark Goetz will also represent the Mountaineers. Nicholls shot five over to finish in the top-30 at Furman, while Goetz is averaging 74.62 strokes per round in his freshman season.
