April 25, 2018 12:03 PM | Tennis
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team travels to Austin, Texas, to take on No. 8-seed TCU in the first round of the Big 12 Tennis Championship on Thursday, April 26.
The 2018 Big 12 Championship is hosted by Texas, with all matches taking place at the Texas Tennis Center. Thursday's contest is slated to begin at 11 a.m. ET and will be the second straight meeting between the two squads, with TCU upending WVU, 4-0, on April 22.
"It's exciting that we are playing TCU again," said fifth-year coach Miha Lisac. "It's a unique situation where we will play them twice in a span of five days. It provides a great opportunity for us to learn from the first match and apply those lessons to this matchup. We had some good showings, so we have some good lessons that we learned from on Sunday."
TCU finished the regular season with a 12-13 overall record and a 2-7 mark in Big 12 play. Marie Norris leads the Horned Frogs with a 14-5 singles record this season, while senior Aleksandra Zenovka is ranked No. 124 in the Oracle/ITA singles rankings. Two doubles tandems top TCU with six wins this spring.
The Mountaineers (7-13, 1-8) enter the Big 12 Championship after dropping a pair of matches against No. 13 Texas Tech (4-0) on Friday, April 20, and TCU on Sunday, April 22, in Morgantown.
Senior Lyn Yuen Choo and freshman Giovanna Caputo lead the Mountaineers in singles play with eight wins apiece. The doubles pair of Choo and Paula Goetz pace the Mountaineers with nine wins in doubles action.
