WVU Drops Decision to No. 13 Texas Tech

Morgantown, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women's tennis team fell to No. 13 Texas Tech, 4-0, on Friday evening, at the Mountaineer Tennis Courts in Morgantown.
WVU (7-12, 1-7 Big 12) began the match by dropping the doubles point, as the Lady Raiders took two of the three matches to take the early 1-0 lead. On the first court, Paula Goetz and Lyn Yuen Choo fell to No. 18 Sabrina Federici and Sarah Dvorak, 6-1. TTU then claimed the doubles point when Tech's Alex Valenstein and Katelyn Jackson defeated Christina Jordan and Yvon Martinez, 6-1 at No. 3.
The match between Sofía Duran and Anne-Sophie Courteau and No. 88 Felicity Maltby and Gabriela Maltby was abandoned due to clinch rules.
The Lady Raiders would then win the first three singles matches to claim the contest 4-0. At No. 1, Jordan fell to No. 20 Talaba, 6-1 and 6-3, and Goetz lost to No. 103 Federici, 6-1 and 6-0, on the fourth court as Texas Tech took a commanding 3-0 lead.
Jackson clinched the match for the Lady Raiders when she defeated Martinez in straight sets, 6-1, on court No. 6 to give Texas Tech the 4-0 win.
The match between Choo and No. 54 Maltby was abandoned in the second set due to clinch rules. The matches at No. 2 and No. 3 were also halted.
"It's good that we were able to play outside and have an outdoor match today," fifth-year coach Miha Lisac said. "We are looking forward to being back outside on Sunday, in the Big 12 Championship we will play outdoors so it is nice that we get to finally play some outdoor tennis."
West Virginia will conclude the regular season at home on Sunday, April 22, against TCU. First serve from the match will be at 11 a.m. Weather depending, the contest is set to take place at the Mountaineer Tennis Courts, but should weather move the match inside it will be held at the Summit Tennis Academy.
"We have continued to learn lessons this season," Lisac continued. "Hopefully going into Sunday, we will learn these lessons going in to the match against TCU."
On Sunday, WVU will honor its seniors, Lyn Yuen Choo and Yvon Martinez, against the Horned Frogs. All fans in attendance will be able to get free Panera bagels and WVU tennis posters. Fans are encouraged to be in their seats 10 minutes prior to the match to help recognize the seniors for their outstanding accomplishments.
