The two Mountaineer finalists were among six WVU divers who were in action at the NCAA Zones meet on Monday.
"Overall, it was a very positive day for the divers," WVU diving coach Michael Grapner said. "I'm very proud of each of them for rising up to the challenge and competing the way they know how. Logan and Julia were both consistent in prelims, which put them into the finals. This is a tough meet; there are 50 divers just as good – or better – than you, so I'm really pleased with today."
McHenry earned a 3-meter score of 349.10 in the preliminary round, good for eighth place going into the finals. Along with McHenry, junior Austin Smith finished in 29th place after producing a score of 252.05 in prelims.
On the women's side, Calcut sat in 14th after her preliminary score of 244.10. Freshman Callie Smith finished in 38th place during the preliminary round, earning a score of 203.90.
The top 18 divers advanced to the finals in both events. The top five divers on men's 3-meter and top six on women's 1-meter from the finals advanced to the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.
The meet resumes on Tuesday with men's 1-meter and women's 3-meter. The action is set to begin at 12 p.m. ET, with Wednesday's men's and women's platform diving scheduled for 11 a.m. Live results can be found at meetcontrol.com/divemeets.
"Tomorrow will be another good day," Grapner said. "The important thing is to stay positive and keep up the good vibes."
