
Duo Owns a Combined Three Rankings

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Junior Kirah Koshinski and senior Zaakira Muhammad of the West Virginia University gymnastics team own a combined three rankings in this week's Road to Nationals Rankings.
Koshinski, a native of Berwick, Pennsylvania, ranks No. 12 on vault with a 9.895 regional qualifying score (RQS). She also debuts in the floor rankings and sits at No. 49 with a 9.87 RQS. Koshinski has scored 9.85 or better on floor each meet since Feb. 10.
Muhammad, a native of Pennsauken, New Jersey, returns to the vault rankings and ranks No. 49 with a 9.845 RQS.
Additionally, the Mountaineer vault lineup moved up one spot to No. 14 this week and boasts a 49.125 RQS. The unit has tallied 49.0 or better each week since Feb. 2.
This week's rankings are the second of the season based on RQS. An RQS is calculated by taking a squad and gymnast's six-best scores, three of which must be from a road meet, dropping the top score and averaging the remaining five.
Regionally, the Mountaineers continue to rank No. 5 in the Southeast with a 195.63 RQS. WVU ranks as high as No. 3 on vault. The squad also ranks No. 5 on balance beam (48.855 RQS), No. 6 on floor (49.09 RQS) and No. 7 on uneven bars (48.745 RQS).
Koshinski and Muhammad are two of four Mountaineers regionally ranked on vault and sit at No. 4 and No. 8, respectively. Senior Robyn Bernard ranks No. 16 with a 9.825 RQS, and sophomore Julia Merwin ranks No. 20 with a 9.815 RQS.
Koshinski ranks No. 9 on floor and is followed by senior Jordan Gillette, who ranks No. 21 (9.835 RQS).
Junior Jaquie Tun ranks No. 19 on bars with a 9.795 RQS. Muhammad follows at No. 21 (9.79 RQS).
Junior Carly Galpin ranks No. 21 on beam with a 9.8 RQS, and Gillette sits at No. 25 (9.76 RQS).
The Mountaineers rank No. 4 in the Big 12 Conference. WVU sits at No. 3 on vault and floor and ranks No. 4 on bars and beam.
Koshinski continues to rank No. 3 on vault. She also ranks No. 6 on floor. Muhammad sits at No. 10 on vault.
Oklahoma remains at No. 1 nationally with a 197.98 RQS. LSU moved up one spot to No. 2 (197.715 RQS), and UCLA dropped back to No. 3 (197.65 RQS). Utah (197.415 RQS) and Florida (197.325 RQS) rank No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.
Alabama ranks No. 6 (197.005 RQS) and is followed by Michigan at No. 7 (196.93 RQS) and Kentucky at No. 8 (196.715 RQS). Washington (196.67 RQS) and Arkansas (196.66 RQS) round out the top 10.
The Mountaineers travel to Washington, D.C., on Sunday, March 11, for a tri meet at No. 18 George Washington with Pitt. Action inside the Charles E. Smith Center begins at 1 p.m.
