Box Score MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women's tennis team claimed a win in singles and doubles action, but fell to No. 19 Oklahoma State, 4-1, on Sunday, at the Greenwood Tennis Center, in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
 
West Virginia (4-7, 0-2) began the match by dropping the doubles point, as OSU claimed two of three doubles matches. The freshmen tandem of Giovanna Caputo and Anne-Sophie Courteau teamed up in doubles play and claimed WVU's lone win as they defeated Megan McCray and Sami Court, 6-2, at No. 3.
 
On the first court, Christina Jordan and Sofía Duran fell to No. 19 Vladica Babic and Sofia Blanco, 6-1. The Cowgirls would then claim the doubles point, as OSU's Marina Guinart and Katarina Stresnakova narrowly edged Lyn Yuen Choo and Paula Goetz, 7-5.
 
"We competed well against one of the best teams that will vie for the Big 12 title," fifth-year coach Miha Lisac said. "The opportunity at the end of doubles was a big moment, but unfortunately, OSU took the point."
 
Caputo opened singles play for the Mountaineers with a win, as she dropped Sami Court, 6-0 and 6-0, on the sixth court to tie the match at 1-1.
 
Oklahoma State then rallied to win the next three singles matches to pick up the 4-1 win. At No. 4, Duran fell to No. 96-ranked Guinart in two sets, 6-0 and 6-1. Jordan dropped a 6-0 and 6-0 decision to No. 38 Babic. No. 74 McCray earned the match-clinching victory for the Cowgirls, as she defeated Anne-Sophie Courteau, 6-3 and 6-1, on the second court.
 
The matches on courts No. 3 and No. 5 were then abandoned due to clinch rules.
 
"The exciting part is that we are learning the steps needed to best some of the top teams in our conference," Lisac said.
 
West Virginia returns to Morgantown for a pair of matches next weekend, as they take on Duquesne, on Friday, March 23, at 1 p.m., before hosting Iowa State in the Big 12 home opener on Saturday, March 24, at noon.
