MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Sophomore
Chloe Cluchey of the West Virginia University gymnastics team has been named the Big 12 Conference's co-Event Specialist of the Week.
Today's honor is the first of the 2018 season for a Mountaineer gymnast and the first career recognition for Cluchey. She is the fourth different Mountaineer to earn the award and the first since Melissa Idell received two weekly honors in 2015.
Cluchey's recognition follows her career-best showing at No. 18 George Washington on March 11. Competing in the lineup's fifth position, Cluchey finished first outright on uneven bars with a career-high 9.925, 0.125 points better than her previous high of 9.8. Only eight WVU gymnasts have scored higher than Cluchey on bars.
The event win was the first on bars for Cluchey and the second of her career. She now shows five career podium finishes.
Oklahoma's Stefani Catour shares the award with Cluchey.
The Mountaineers tallied a season-best 196.425 in a second-place showing in Washington, D.C. Included in WVU's day was a season-high 49.15 on uneven bars.
