Vault Lineup Nationally Ranked

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Following a season-best showing at No. 1 Oklahoma on Feb. 23, the West Virginia University vault lineup ranks No. 15 in this week's Road to Nationals Rankings.
Today marks the first time this season the Mountaineers (7-7, 0-3) are nationally ranked on vault. The team sat at No. 26 the last three weeks.
WVU's ranking is based on its 49.075 regional qualifying score (RQS). Today's rankings are the first of the season based on RQS. An RQS is calculated by taking a squad's six best scores, three of which must be from road meets, dropping the top score and averaging the remaining five.
The Mountaineers tallied a season-best 49.325 on vault at OU, matching the fifth-best mark in program history. Junior Kirah Koshinski played a big role in the team's total, as she anchored the lineup with a winning, career-best matching 9.95 score. The Berwick, Pennsylvania, native ranks No. 9 nationally on vault with a 9.895 RQS.
Regionally, the Mountaineers rank No. 5 in the Southeast with a 195.42 RQS. The team sits at No. 3 on vault and No. 6 on uneven bars (48.695 RQS), balance beam (48.795 RQS) and floor exercise (49.0 RQS).
Five Mountaineers are regionally ranked on vault. Koshinski paces the team and sits at No. 3. Senior Zaakira Muhammad follows at No. 10 (9.835 RQS), while sophomore Julia Merwin ranks No. 17 (9.8 RQS) and senior Robyn Bernard ranks No. 19 (9.785 RQS). Junior Jaquie Tun ranks No. 21 (9.78 RQS).
Koshinski also ranks No. 10 on floor with a 9.855 RQS. Senior Jordan Gillette follows at No. 18 (9.815 RQS).
Junior Carly Galpin paces the beam lineup and ranks No. 16 with a 9.795 RQS. Freshman McKenna Linnen and Gillette rank No. 23 with matching 9.745 RQS marks.
Muhammad ranks a team-best No. 17 (9.785 RQS) on bars, and Tun follows at No. 18 (9.775 RQS).
The Mountaineers rank No. 4 overall in the Big 12 Conference. WVU ranks No. 3 on vault and floor and No. 4 on bars and beam.
Koshinski ranks No. 3 on vault and No. 6 on floor. Muhammad ranks No. 10 on vault.
The Sooners continue to rank No. 1 nationally with a 197.855 RQS. UCLA ranks No. 2 (197.61 RQS), and LSU follows at No. 3 (197.545 RQS). Utah (197.415 RQS) and Florida (197.25 RQS) rank No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.
Alabama ranks No. 6 with a 196.85 RQS. Michigan ranks No. 7 (196.8 RQS), and Oregon State follows at No. 8 (196.605 RQS). Kentucky (196.56 RQS) and Arkansas (196.53 RQS) round out the top 10.
The Mountaineers closed their Big 12 regular-season slate with a 198.025-195.75 loss in Norman, Oklahoma, Friday night. WVU's score was a road season-best mark. The Mountaineers also earned season-high road scores on beam (49.025) and floor (49.1).
WVU travels to Pitt Sunday, March 4, for a tri-meet with the Panthers and Penn State. Action inside Fitzgerald Field House is set to begin at 2 p.m.
