MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team returns to the Mountain State as it faces Buffalo on Saturday, Feb. 24, and Towson on Sunday, Feb. 25. Both matches will take place at the Summit Tennis Academy, formerly known as the Ridgeview Racquet Club.
Saturday's match against Buffalo is slated to begin at noon ET. The match marks the sixth meeting between the two schools, with the Mountaineers holding a 3-2 advantage over the Bulls. The two teams met last season, with WVU winning the match, 4-3. UB enters the matchup with a 3-1 record after dropping Duquesne, 5-2, on Feb. 16. Live stats for the match can be found here.
"It's important to come out on Saturday and start the weekend the right way because that will set us up for success in the second match," fifth-year coach Miha Lisac said. "All of the preparation that we are doing now has to do with us coming out and starting the weekend well on Saturday first."
Free pizza and WVU Tennis posters will be available to all fans attending the match on Saturday. Fans also are encouraged to stay after the match for an autograph signing with the team.
On Sunday, WVU will take on Towson for just the second time in program history. The Mountaineers topped the Tigers, 6-1, in the first meeting between the two teams in 2015. First serve for the match is set for 1 p.m. Free pizza will also be available for the first 150 fans in attendance. Attendees are encouraged to stay after the match for a poster autograph signing with the team.
Towson enters the weekend with a 3-2 record after besting Saint Joseph's, 6-1, on Feb. 17 and will travel to Pittsburgh on Friday to take on Duquesne. Fans can follow the action from home at WVUlivestats.com.
"Both teams, just like the opponents that we have been facing so far are pretty solid teams. We know what to expect. We have seen the level and have seen the opponents, so it is pretty much up to us as far as how we will come out and perform." Lisac said.
Senior Lyn Yuen Choo and freshman Giovanna Caputo lead the Mountaineers with three singles wins on the season, while each of the three doubles teams have won two matches apiece this season.
