Rally Time with Gabi Cuckovich
February 21, 2018 03:41 PM | Volleyball
Throughout the next couple months, each member of the West Virginia University volleyball team will share their thoughts on what it's like being a Division I student-athlete at West Virginia and what makes being a Mountaineer so special. Next up – sophomore Gabi Cuckovich.
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Hey Mountaineer Nation, Gabi Cuckovich here!
HOW ABOUT THE WEATHER THIS WEEK?! As a Michigander, I can't say I've experienced 70 plus degree weather in February. It's hard not to have a good day with it being so nice outside. But, every day is a good day when you're a Mountaineer!
Many of us have been saying that the spring semester has been flying by. It's crazy to think that we are eight weeks into the offseason. Team practice starts next week, and we are excited to get back to work.
This past weekend we had the Mountaineer Fan Festival. It was held before the Beauty and the Beast Meet at the WVU Coliseum, which was a combined event with gymnastics and wrestling. Before the meet began, many of the WVU teams were stationed around the concourse doing different activities with the Mountaineer faithful. The team and I handed out glow stick necklaces and helped kids make posters. It was a great turnout, and everyone seemed to love it! On top of that, both the gymnastics and wrestling teams did great, and they pulled out the win to cue Country Roads.
So far, classes are going well. It's exciting getting into classes that are more related to my major, which is marketing. I typically get done with classes around 1 p.m., which leaves me with the rest of the day to myself. But on Tuesday and Thursday, I have a night class that interrupts my nap time. My nights typically consist of hanging out with my roommates Erin, Katelyn and Natania. Emma and Gianna are often with us because we all live in the same apartment complex. We all like to watch the sunsets and have bonfires.
I am so looking forward to the rest of the spring because of volleyball tournaments, nice weather and baseball season. With the help of my teammates, every day is exciting.
Much love,
Gabi
