MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University senior guard/forward Naomi Davenport has been named the Big 12 Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday.
The award is the first weekly honor for Davenport, who was named a Preseason All-Big 12 Honorable Mention in October.
The Cincinnati, Ohio, native opened her senior campaign with a triple-double of 13 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists in the Mountaineers' season-opening win over Coppin State on Tuesday. Davenport is the first WVU player to register a triple-double since Dionne Morris did so in December of 1987. In addition, Davenport is just the fifth player to achieve the feat, as there are just six triple-doubles in program history.
On Sunday, Davenport had 15 points and a team-best 13 rebounds, notching her seventh career double-double, in the 95-50 win over NJIT. She finished the week averaging 14.0 points and 13.0 rebounds per game, and totaled five steals and 12 assists through two contests.
Davenport and the Mountaineers return to the court on Thursday when they host Bryant in a special 10 a.m. tipoff at the WVU Coliseum in celebration of Education Day.
