St. Georges Named Student-Athlete of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Following a two-goal performance in a come-from-behind, 2-1 win over No. 13 Texas on Oct. 7, senior defender Bianca St. Georges of the No. 16-ranked women's soccer team has been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by University Apartments.
A native of St. Felix de Valois, Quebec, St. Georges helped WVU overcome a late 1-0 deficit on Sunday. First, she connected on her second penalty kick of the season in the 77th minute. Just 3:09 later, she buried a one-timer from inside the box for her first career game-winning goal and brace. The Mountaineers became the first team this season to put two goals behind the Longhorn defense.
Defensively, St. Georges anchored a Mountaineer backline that held UT to just one shot on-goal and zero corner kicks. The Longhorns entered Sunday's match averaging 6.92 shots on-goal/game and 7.00 points/game.
WVU's victory, its third of the year against a ranked opponent, was a bounce-back effort, as the Mountaineers dropped a 1-0 (OT) decision to No. 24 Baylor on Oct. 5.
Through five Big 12 matches, WVU is 4-1 in conference play and has held league opponents to a combined five shots on-goal.
This Week in Women's Soccer: The No. 16-ranked Mountaineers (8-3-3, 4-1) return to the road for a match at Iowa State on Friday, Oct. 12, with kick from the Cyclone Sports Complex at 8 p.m. ET.

This Week in Swimming and Diving: The Mountaineers open the 2018-19 regular season at the West Virginia State Games, from Oct. 12-13, in Huntington, West Virginia … Marshall will serve as host of the annual in-state meet at Frederick A. Fitch Natatorium … competition is set to begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 12, while events resume at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13.

This Week in Rowing: The Mountaineers will begin the 2018 fall season with races against Duquesne and Robert Morris on Saturday, Oct. 13, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania ... Saturday's race will be hosted by Duquesne.
Last Season in Rowing: West Virginia capped the spring 2018 season with an eighth-place finish at the Big 12 Championship, amassing eight team points ... senior Carly Ledbetter was named to the All-Big 12 First Team ... five rowers earned CRCA Scholar Athlete recognition.
Notes: Saturday's meet against Duquesne marks the sixth consecutive season that the Mountaineers and Dukes have met ... WVU announced the addition of 22 members to the novice squad on Sept. 13 ... the novice team will begin competition at the Head of Occoquan on Nov. 3 in Fairfax Station, Virginia.
