MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Sophomore David Dixon of the West Virginia University men's swimming and diving team has been named the Big 12 Men's Swimmer of the Week, as announced by the conference on Wednesday.
Dixon won six individual and two relay events in the last two meets, earning five pool records in the process. The Richmond, Virginia, native helped the Mountaineer men's team to dual-meet wins over Seton Hall (235-64) and Xavier (241-52) on Oct. 19-20, and Villanova (236-64) on Oct. 27.
The conference accolade is Dixon's second of the season and third of his career. He also was named the Big 12 Men's Swimmer of the Week on Oct. 17, 2018, and Jan. 24, 2018.
"David continues to train and compete at a very high level," WVU coach Vic Riggs said. "His results are consistent and it's great that he's again being recognized by the conference."
Against Seton Hall and Xavier, Dixon won the 200 butterfly in a pool-record time of 1:43.81, the nation's top time in the event this season. He also was victorious in the 200 individual medley (1:48.54) and 200 breaststroke (2:02.95). Additionally, Dixon helped the men's 200 medley relay team to a first-place and pool-record time of 1:28.77.
At Villanova, Dixon's success continued, as he secured wins in the 200 fly (1:44.61, pool record), 200 IM (1:48.05, pool record) and 200 breast (2:03.16). He also helped the 200 medley relay team to a Villanova Swim Complex record in 1:29.21.
Through three meets this season, Dixon is undefeated in individual events and also hasn't lost as a member of any relay team in 2018-19. Along with his top time in the 200 fly, he also ranks in the top 10 nationally in the 200 IM.
Additionally, the men's team sits at 3-0 on the season and has won 11 consecutive dual meets dating back to the 2016-17 campaign.
The Mountaineers return to action when swimmers travel to the Ohio State Invitational, in Columbus, Ohio, and divers compete at the Navy Diving Invitational, in Annapolis, Maryland, from Nov. 15-17.
