WVU Picked Third in Big 12 Preseason Poll

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women's basketball team was picked to finish third in the league for the 2018-19 season in the return of the Big 12 Preseason Poll, as announced by the league office on Thursday.
The Mountaineers received 65 votes from the league's coaches. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team. The league did not vote on a preseason poll for the 2017-18 season.
Baylor was selected as the preseason favorite for the eighth time in league history, receiving 80 total votes and eight first-place votes. Texas was selected second with 72 total votes, including a pair of first-place votes.
West Virginia went 25-12 last season and peaked as high as No. 9 in the Associated Press poll. The squad went 8-10 in league play and made it to the semifinals of the 2018 Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship as the No. 6 seed. One of the first four teams out of the NCAA Tournament, the Mountaineers made a run to the WNIT Semifinals where they fell to rival Virginia Tech.
WVU will officially open the 2018-19 season on Nov. 6 when the Mountaineers welcome Coppin State to the WVU Coliseum in a 7 p.m. tipoff.
