Duo Nationally Ranked

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – A pair of West Virginia University gymnasts are nationally ranked in this week's Road to Nationals Rankings.
Junior Kirah Koshinski moved up four positions and ranks No. 23 on vault with a 9.862 season average. Additionally, senior Zaakira Muhammad ranks No. 40 in the all-around with a 39.1 average.
As a team, the Mountaineers sit just outside the top 25 for the first time this season and rank No. 27 with a 195.188 average. WVU is nationally ranked No. 23 on balance beam with a 48.775 season average.
Regionally, WVU checks-in at No. 5 in the Southeast. The Mountaineers rank as high as No. 3 on beam. The squad also ranks No. 4 on uneven bars (48.663 avg.) and No. 6 on vault (48.825 avg.) and floor exercise (48.925 avg.).
Koshinski owns the team's highest individual regional ranking and sits at No. 4 on vault. Muhammad follows at No. 12 (9.808 avg.).
Five Mountaineers are ranked on beam, with Muhammad pacing the pack at No. 11 (9.813 avg.). Senior Jordan Gillette ranks No. 17 (9.775), and freshman McKenna Linnen follows at No. 21 (9.756 avg.). Sophomore Erica Fontaine ranks No. 22 (9.75 avg.), and junior Carly Galpin ranks No. 25 (9.744 avg.).
Muhammad also ranks a team-best No. 9 on bars (9.808 avg.) and No. 6 in the all-around. Junior Jaquie Tun follows in the bars rankings and sits at No. 18 (9.762 avg.), while sophomore Abby Kaufman ranks No. 15 (38.95 avg.) in the all-around.
Koshinski is the lone Mountaineer ranked on floor and checks-in at No. 9 (9.837 avg.).
The Mountaineers rank No. 4 in the Big 12 Conference. WVU ranks No. 3 on beam and floor and No. 4 on vault and bars.

Oklahoma continues to rank No. 1 nationally with a 197.733 average. LSU follows at No. 2 (197.306 avg.), Utah sits at No. 3 (197.244 avg.), and UCLA (197.094 avg.) and Florida (196.875 avg.) rank No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.
Kentucky ranks No. 6 (196.419 avg.) and is followed by Michigan at No. 7 (196.313 avg.) and Arkansas at No. 8 (196.3 avg.). Nebraska (196.242 avg.) and Alabama (196.194 avg.) round out the top 10.
The Mountaineers open their Big 12 slate at No. 25 Iowa State, with Northern Illinois, on Friday, Feb. 2, at 7:30 p.m. EST, inside Hilton Coliseum in Ames, Iowa.
