Duo Earns Multiple Top-10 Finishes

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Rising junior Ginny Thrasher of the West Virginia University rifle team finished second in the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions on May 28, at the 27th Meeting of the Shooting Hopes junior event in Pilsen, Czech Republic.
A 2016 Olympic Gold medalist and a two-time NCAA Champion, Thrasher shot 451.1 in the final. She advanced following a fifth place, 581 (194 kneeling, 199 prone, 188 standing) showing in the qualification relay.
Mountaineer teammate Morgan Phillips, a rising sophomore, finished seventh in the event with a 394.9 mark. The 2017 NCAA smallbore champion finished sixth in the qualification relay with a 580 (194 kneeling, 195 prone, 191 standing) mark.
The duo opened the competition with the women’s 10m air rifle on May 26. Thrasher shot 414.2 (104.5, 103.5, 103.8, 102.4) and placed 12th, while Phillips tallied a final mark of 411.8 (103.8, 102.3, 102.9, 102.8).
Phillips earned her first top-10 finish of the weekend in the women’s 50m rifle prone on May 27, shooting 620.5 (103.9, 101.2, 102.8, 103.8, 105.9, 102.9) and placing seventh overall. Thrasher finished with a 613.5 (104.4, 101.0, 101.7, 102.6, 101.4, 102.4) mark.
