Mountaineers Return to Coaches Poll

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (March 7, 2017) – Following Monday’s Phillips Big 12 Championship win, the West Virginia University women’s basketball team has returned to the USA Today Sports Coaches Top 25 Poll, coming in at No. 22 in the most recent poll released on Tuesday.
West Virginia (23-10, 8-10) downed No. 19 Oklahoma (82-58) and No. 14 Texas (62-59) to advance to the Big 12 Championship game on Monday. The Mountaineers stunned No. 2 Baylor in a 77-66 upset to win the 2017 Big 12 Championship.
WVU earned 99 votes in this week’s poll. Other Big 12 teams in the USA Today Top 25 include No. 5 Baylor (670), No. 15 Texas (361) and No. 20 Oklahoma (152). Kansas State (12) also received votes in this week’s poll.
The Mountaineers also received 31 votes in the AP Top 25.
West Virginia won its second conference title and it’s first ever Big 12 Championship on Monday. The Mountaineers will make their 12th NCAA Tournament appearance in 2017, with 10 of those coming under coach Mike Carey.
