MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University track and field team returns to North Carolina to compete at the Raleigh Relays on March 24-25, at Paul Derr Track.
NC State hosts 100 schools with 2,217 athletes entered to compete. Competition on Friday begins at 9:45 a.m. ET, with the women’s unseeded 5,000 meters and Saturday starts at 10 a.m. ET, with the women’s hammer.
“Week two for the group brings higher expectations,” said coach Sean Cleary. “Last week’s rust-buster came with some very strong results. We are looking to build on that momentum in Raleigh.”
Fans can follow the event live at flashresults.com. Additionally, ESPN3 is providing live coverage for Friday and Saturday’s competition.
The last time the Mountaineers competed at the Raleigh Relays was in 2014, when WVU collected three top-10 seven finishes.
Last weekend WVU opened the outdoor season at the 49er Classic. WVU grabbed three victories in field events – triple jump, long jump and in pole vault.
Junior Shamoya McNeil won the women’s triple jump, leaping an outdoor career-best of 12.78 meters. McNeil improved from her previous best by .02 meters, which was set last season.
Sophomore Danique Bryan won the women’s long jump finals, posting a career-best mark of 6.01 meters.
In the women’s pole vault finals, sophomore Madelin Gardner won with a mark of 3.90 meters, just .01 meters shy of matching her career best.
West Virginia has a quick turnaround, following the Raleigh Relays, as the team travels to Palo Alto, California, to compete at the Stanford Invitational on March 31- April 1.
