MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University women’s basketball team plays its final road game of the regular season with a visit to Oklahoma State on Saturday, Feb. 25. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. ET/5 p.m. CT at Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
Dan Zangrilli will have the call on the Mountaineer Sports Network from IMG. Fans can listen to various affiliates across the state (click here for full list), WVUsports.com, the WVU Gameday app and TuneIn. A free live video stream will be available at YouTube.com/OSUAthletics.
West Virginia (19-9, 7-9) and Oklahoma State (15-12, 5-11) met just two weeks ago, as the Mountaineers knocked down a school-record 17 three-pointers en route to a 79-53 win over the Cowgirls. Tynice Martin scored 30 points, with 21 of those coming from behind the arch. Martin would later earn Big 12 Player of the Week and NCAA Starting Five recognition for her performance.
“When you hit 17 three’s everything works,” coach Mike Carey noted on the Mountaineers’ meeting with Oklahoma State on Feb. 11. “They’re going to play us different and do some different things. The game is going to be won in the paint, defensively and offensively. We’re going to have to defend the paint and get the ball in the paint.”
Since that 26-point loss to the Mountaineers, OSU has won two of three contests including a 75-62 win over Texas Tech on Wednesday. The Cowgirls are averaging 67.0 points per game, while giving up 64.7 points per game to opponents. OSU is shooting 41.6 percent (655-of-175) from the field and limiting opponents to 38.5 (640-of-1661) percent.
Three Cowgirls are averaging double-figures with Kaylee Jensen leading the way with 18.6 points. Mandy Coleman and Karlie Wheeler follow with 12.8 points and 12.0 points, respectively.
Jensen leads the Big 12 in points per game and with 10.7 rebounds per game. She is ninth nationally with 19 double-doubles and is 19th in the NCAA with 7.0 defensive rebounds per contest. Katelyn Loecker leads the Cowgirls with 81 assists, while averaging 3.9 points per game.
Martin and Teana Muldrow combined for 50 points in West Virginia’s 77-73 win over TCU on Wednesday. Martin tallied 25 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Muldrow scored a career-high 25 points and collected a game-high 14 rebounds. With a free throw make at the 5:10 mark of the second quarter, Muldrow became the 33rd Mountaineer to reach the 1,000-point milestone.
Martin leads the Mountaineers and is second in the Big 12 with 17.8 points per game. She is three points away (497) from becoming the 16th Mountaineer to score 500 or more points in a season. Muldrow is second on the team with 14.6 points per game and is fourth in the Big 12 with 8.4 rebounds per game.
Senior center Lanay Montgomery paces West Virginia with 9.2 rebounds per game, while scoring 11.4 points per game. The Pittsburgh native is eight rebounds away from passing Mary Hennen (890) for fourth all-time on WVU’s career rebounding ledger.
Other Big 12 leaders include Chania Ray’s 6.0 assists per game and Alexis Brewer’s 47.0 three-point field goal percentage (31-of-66).
West Virginia is averaging 75.0 points per game and giving up just 62.1 per contest to opponents. The Mountaineers are shooting at a 44.5 percent clip (762-of-1712) from the field and 35.4 percent (191-of-539) from beyond the arc.
WVU is seeking its 11th 20-win season under 16-year head coach Mike Carey. Overall, the program has produced 14 20-win seasons. A win on Saturday would mark a program-best fourth consecutive year the Mountaineers have recorded 20 or more wins.
Following Saturday’s contest, West Virginia returns to the WVU Coliseum for Senior Night against Kansas on Monday, Feb. 27. Tipoff is scheduled for a 7 p.m. contest. Wednesday is Family Night. Fans can purchase four tickets and receive a $15 concession voucher for $25. Additionally, the first 300 fans at the WVU Coliseum Gold Gate will receive the third of three limited edition pint glasses. Tickets can be purchased online at WVUGAME.com or by calling the Mountaineer Ticket Office at 1-800-WVU GAME.
