Three Event Lineups Nationally Ranked
February 20, 2017 07:15 PM | Gymnastics
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Three of the West Virginia University gymnastics team’s lineups are nationally ranked in this week’s Road to Nationals Rankings.
The Mountaineers’ vault lineup ranks No. 17 (49.02), while the floor exercise lineup sits at No. 18 (49.01) and the uneven bars lineup ranks No. 24 (48.83).
This week’s rankings are the first of the season based on regional qualifying scores (RQS). Qualification for NCAA regional competition is based on a team and individual’s six best regular-season scores, of which three must be earned away from a team’s home venue. To obtain an RQS, the high score is eliminated and the remaining five scores are averaged. Teams and individual gymnasts who have not yet competed in enough meets/routines to compute an RQS are not ranked this week. The top-36 ranked schools as of March 20 will qualify for the 2017 NCAA Regional Championships.
Following a four-week stint within the rankings, the Mountaineers (6-5, 1-1) stand just outside the top 25 today at No. 26 with a 195.255 RQS.
Individually, three Mountaineers own four national rankings. Sophomore Kirah Koshinski ranks No. 13 (9.88) on vault and No. 20 (9.875) on floor. Junior Zaakira Muhammad follows in the vault rankings and sits at No. 21 (9.85), while sophomore Tiara Wright checks in at No. 45 (9.835) on bars.
Oklahoma continues to sit at No. 1 with a 197.89 RQS. LSU ranks No. 2 (197.655) and is followed by Florida at No. 3 (197.435), Alabama at No. 4 (197.085) and Utah at No. 5 (196.965).
UCLA ranks No. 6 (196.9), Georgia ranks No. 7 (196.735) and Denver ranks No. 8 (196.55). Michigan (196.5) and Oregon State (196.37) round out the top 10.
Regionally, the Mountaineers rank No. 4 in the Southeast. The squad sits at No. 3 on vault and also ranks No. 4 (48.625) on balance beam and floor. WVU ranks No. 5 on bars.
Koshinski ranks a team-best No. 3 on floor, No. 4 on vault and No. 20 (9.745) on beam. Four Mountaineers follow in the vault rankings. Muhammad sits at No. 6, junior Robyn Bernard ranks No. 18 (9.77), and freshmen Julia Merwin (9.755) and Chloe Cluchey (9.75) rank No. 21 and No. 23, respectively.
Muhammad also is ranked No. 14 (9.815) on floor. Freshman Kassidy Cumber follows at No. 23 (9.77).
Wright is the lone Mountaineer ranked on bars and checks in at No. 20.

Koshinski ranks No. 5 on vault and No. 6 on floor. Muhammad sits at No. 7 on vault, and Wright checks in at No. 8 on bars.
