MORGANTOWN, W.Va.–The West Virginia University rifle team ranks No. 2 in this week’s College Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) Poll.
This week’s rankings are the fourth of the year using the NCAA Team Qualifier System. In this system, an average is derived using a team’s top three scores from three different ranges.
The Mountaineers (10-0, 7-0 GARC) stay at No. 2 with an average of 4723.33, based on scores of 4725 (WVU Rifle Range), 4724 (at Akron) and 4721 (at Ohio State).
Along with WVU, the top three teams in this week’s poll hold averages above 4700.
TCU sits at No. 1 with an average of 4724.67, and Murray State remains at No. 3 with a 4717 average.
Air Force comes in at No. 4 with an average of 4698.67, while Kentucky ranks No. 5 with a 4693.67 average.
Ohio State holds the No. 6 spot with an average of 4686.67, and Alaska-Fairbanks stays at No. 7 with a 4682 average.
Nebraska remains at No. 8 with an average of 4676.67, while NC State owns the No. 9 spot with a 4667.67 average.
Nevada rounds out the top 10 for the third week in a row with an average of 4665.
All top-10 teams remain ranked in the same position for the second week in a row.
The Mountaineers return to competition next weekend for a pair of matches in Lexington, Kentucky. WVU will face Great America Rifle Conference (GARC) opponent No. 5 Kentucky on Saturday, Feb. 11. On Sunday, Feb. 12, WVU will compete against No. 3 Murray State in its final regular-season match. Both matches are set to begin at 8 a.m. at the Buell Armory.
