MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University junior guard Tynice Martin has been named to the 2018 Wade Trophy Watch List, as announced by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) on Wednesday. Additionally, Martin and senior forward Teana Muldrow were named to the 2018 Citizen Naismith Trophy Watch List, as announced by the Atlanta Tipoff Club.
Presented by the WBCA, the Wade Trophy is given annually to the best player in college women's basketball. Martin is one of 25 players selected to the watch list by the WBCA NCAA Division I Coaches All-America Selection Committee. Four finalists will be announced in mid-March, and the winner of the 2018 Wade Trophy will be announced during the 2018 NCAA Women's Final Four national semifinal games on March 30 on ESPN2.
Martin is one of three Big 12 players on the list, as she is joined by Baylor's Kalani Brown and Brooke McCarty of Texas.
The Citizen Naismith Trophy is presented annually to the top women's player by the Atlanta Tipoff Club. A total of 50 players make up the current watch list, with a midseason 30 team set for release in February. Martin and Muldrow are joined by McCarty in representing the Big 12.
Muldrow leads the Mountaineers and ranks second in the Big 12 in scoring with 23.8 points per game. She also is fourth in the league with 9.5 rebounds per game. Most recently, Muldrow averaged 22.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game at the 2017 Paradise Jam Tournament in Melbourne, Florida, to earn MVP and all-tournament team honors for the Island Division.
A 2016-17 Associated Press and WBCA All-America Honorable Mention, Martin was the 2017 Big 12 Championship Most Outstanding Player after scoring 82 points and 12 rebounds on the Mountaineers' run to the 2017 Big 12 Tournament title. She has missed the first six games of the season with an injury sustained at the U.S.A Women's U23 Training Camp.
No. 11/12 West Virginia (6-0) heads to College Station, Texas, this weekend for a tilt with No. 18/21 Texas A&M as part of the Big 12/SEC Challenge. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. ET on Sunday on ESPNU.
