– The West Virginia University women's basketball team comes in at No. 13 in the AP Top 25 Preseason Women's Basketball Poll, released on Thursday.
The Mountaineers were previously announced as No. 15 in the USA Today Sports Coaches Poll, released last week.
WVU earned 359 points in the poll. A total of four Big 12 teams appeared in the rankings, including No. 2 Texas (722), No. 3 Baylor (709) and No. 22 Oklahoma (143). In addition, Kansas State and Oklahoma State were listed as receiving votes.
Additionally, the Mountaineers appeared at No. 9 in Street & Smith's, No. 11 in Athlon Sports and No. 14 in Lindy's Sports. Junior guard
Tynice Martin was named a Preseason All-Big 12 Team selection, as well as a Colle Sports Madness Preseason All-America Fourth Team honoree. In addition, she was named to Street & Smith's Preseason All-America Second Team.
West Virginia posted a 24-11 overall record in 2016-17, upsetting No. 2 Baylor to win the program's first-ever Big 12 Championship Tournament title. WVU advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, falling to Maryland to cap the season.
The Mountaineers open the regular season on Friday, Nov. 10, when they host Central Connecticut State in a 7 p.m. tip at the WVU Coliseum. As part of Military and First Responder Appreciation Day, all active or veteran military and first responders will receive free admission with a valid ID.
