MORGANTOWN, W.Va.
– West Virginia University junior guard
Tynice Martin has been named to the watch list for the inaugural Ann Meyers Drysdale Award, presented to the nation's best shooting guard, as announced by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame this week.
Martin is one of 20 candidates for the award and is the lone candidate from the Big 12 Conference.
A unanimous All-Big 12 First Team selection in 2016-17, Martin led the league in minutes per game (35.6) and was second in scoring with 18.6 points per game. She posted 82 points across three games to help West Virginia win its first-ever Big 12 Tournament Championship, setting a title-game record with 32 points in the Mountaineers' 77-66 upset of No. 2 Baylor. For her efforts, Martin was named the 2017 Big 12 Championship Most Outstanding Player.
Following the season, Martin earned Associated Press All-America Honorable Mention and Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All-America Honorable Mention. She was recently selected to the 2017-18 All-Big 12 Preseason Team.
The winner of the 2018 Ann Meyers Drysdale Award will be announced at an inaugural awards ceremony hosted by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, Women's Basketball Coaches Association and ESPN at the 2018 NCAA Women's Final Four in Columbus, Ohio.
