MORGANTOWN, W.Va – The West Virginia University women's tennis team opens the fall season with a trip to Cleveland, Ohio, for the Viking Invitational from Oct. 6-8.
Â
"We are very excited to go to the Viking Invitational and start out the season competitively," fifth-year coach Miha Lisac said. "We have been putting in good work so far this semester. When that happens, we are always excited to see how much of that work we can transfer into matches."
Â
Four teams will take part in the Viking Invitational: Cleveland State, Akron, Cincinnati and West Virginia. All matches will take place at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion on the campus of Cleveland State.Â
Â
The Mountaineers are slated to open the weekend on Friday with a 10 a.m. tilt against Akron in singles play. WVU will then face host Cleveland State and Cincinnati in doubles at noon and 1 p.m., respectively. Â
Â
On Saturday, West Virginia will begin at 9 a.m. with a singles match against Cleveland State. The Mountaineers will then square off with the Bearcats at 11:30 a.m., followed by Akron at noon in a pair of doubles matches.
Â
WVU will play a pair of matches on Sunday to close out the Viking Invitational. The Mountaineers will face Cincinnati in singles play at 9 a.m., before taking on the Cleveland State at 11:30 a.m. in doubles to cap the invitational.Â
Â
"It is going to be a good tournament for us to get underway," Lisac said. "We will get a ton of matches in throughout the weekend and that is always the first priority when we start the fall semester."
Â
A recap of each day's action will be available on WVUsports.com.
