
McHenry Named Student-Athlete of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va.- Following his school-record performance at the Big 12 vs. Big East Weekend, senior Logan McHenry of the swimming and diving team has been named the West Virginia University Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by University Apartments.
McHenry set a new school record in the 3-meter dive on Oct. 27, earning a first-place score of 380.80. The mark broke the previous record of 364.96, which was held by Matt O'Neill since 2009.
The Ventnor City, New Jersey, native also earned a third-place finish in the 1-meter dive at the event, helping WVU to a pair of dual-meet wins over Seton Hall and Xavier.
This Week in Women's Soccer: Seeded No. 2, the No. 7-ranked Mountaineers open the 2017 Big 12 Soccer Championship against No. 7-seed Texas Tech on Wednesday, Nov. 1, at 6:30 p.m. ET, at Swope Soccer Village, in Kansas City, Missouri.

Coach LeBlanc Following Friday night's loss to Akron: "For the first 36 minutes, it was game on, I thought we gave them the possessions we wanted them to have in the early parts of the game. We were very good on the counter a couple of times. They scored on their first shot on goal, they scored on their second shot on goal, they scored on their third shot on goal, they scored on their fourth shot on goal. I thought for the first 30-something minutes, we were pretty good, we didn't give up too much, kept their danger in front of us and had a couple good opportunities to hit them on the counter. [We had a] couple good crosses, couple balls in the box and a couple moments where we looked like we could get one. We got punished for our mistakes. They're too good of a team to make mistakes against and there was a 15-minute segment there in the second half where we kept making mistakes, and we got punished for them."

"While fourth place was not the goal, I am still very proud of this performance. In two weeks, we will line up at the NCAA Regional Championships and will do so with the belief that we will be an even better version of today's team. I am very happy for Maggie and Amy being named to the All-Big 12 team."

Make no mistake about it, this is a championship venue and a 'major' for college golf. If you want to truly compete at the highest level, you have to play in an event like this on a golf course like this."

Coach Sammie Henson following last week's wrestle-offs: "I was extremely impressed with the way our guys wrestled this evening, and I'm really impressed by the level of competition each one of them produced. The best match of the night was [Matthew] Schmitt vs. [Joe] Wheeling. It was a tough, hard-fought battle between the two. I also thought Kyler Rea and Christian Monserrat battled it out for the starting position at 149 [pounds]. That's going to be an on-going battle all year. I also want to thank all the Mountaineer fans and the MAC donors that came out to watch tonight's event. The home crowd made tonight truly special, and it is a tradition that we want to keep putting on in Morgantown."

Then as the game went on, a bunch of turnovers and no execution. People came off of the bench, standing around, the defense didn't execute on the other end. It's going to be like that all year unless we start getting people back in the rotation."

This Week in Rifle: The No. 1-ranked Mountaineers play host to a pair of matches at the WVU Rifle Range … WVU lines-up against No. 2 TCU on Saturday, Nov. 4, and Army West Point on Sunday, Nov. 5 … both matches will begin at 8 a.m. and are open to the public.

This Week in Golf: WVU travels to the Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational on the Royal Ka'anapali Course of the Ka'anapali Golf Club in Lahaina on the island of Maui, Hawaii, from Friday through Sunday … Hawai'i will host 19 teams in the event, including Big 12 foe Kansas, Cal, LSU, South Carolina and Georgia … golfers will tee off in a shotgun start at 2 p.m. ET each day for 18 holes of play on the par-71, 6,700-yard course.
Last Week in Golf: Along with the University of Central Florida, West Virginia hosted the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational at Isleworth Golf Course in Windermere, Florida, from Sunday through Tuesday … the Mountaineers finished 16th at 29 over par, scoring 296-300-297=893 … No. 21 Cal took home the team title at six under par with an 858, while No. 28 Illinois and No. 10 Florida tied for the runner-up spot at five under par with scores of 859 … Max Sear finished ahead of 12 nationally ranked golfers to tie for 11th place overall … he shot 71-71-72=214 to finish two under par.

Last Week in Swimming & Diving: The Mountaineers swept the Big 12 vs. Big East Weekend, earning dual-meet victories over Seton Hall and Xavier on Oct. 27-28 at the WVU Natatorium … the men's team topped Seton Hall, 227-53, while defeating Xavier, 224-53 … WVU's women's team took down Seton Hall, 217-63, and defeated Xavier 198-79 … senior Logan McHenry set a school record in the 3-meter dive, earning a first-place score of 380.80 … McHenry broke Matt O'Neill's record of 364.96, which has stood since 2009 … redshirt senior Nate Carr earned his third pool record of the season, winning the 400 individual medley with a time of 3:54.86 … Carr broke the event's WVU Natatorium record, which was set in 2008, by over two seconds.

Coach Sammie Henson following last week's wrestle-offs: "I was extremely impressed with the way our guys wrestled this evening, and I'm really impressed by the level of competition each one of them produced. The best match of the night was [Matthew] Schmitt vs. [Joe] Wheeling. It was a tough, hard-fought battle between the two. I also thought Kyler Rea and Christian Monserrat battled it out for the starting position at 149 [pounds]. That's going to be an on-going battle all year. I also want to thank all the Mountaineer fans and the MAC donors that came out to watch tonight's event. The home crowd made tonight truly special, and it is a tradition that we want to keep putting on in Morgantown."
This Week in Women's Basketball: WVU is off … the Mountaineers will host Central Connecticut State on Friday, Nov. 10, to open the season … tipoff is set for 7 p.m. inside the WVU Coliseum … it will be Military and First Responders Appreciation Day … all military members and first responders will receive free admission with a valid ID.
Last Week in Women's Basketball: The Mountaineers unofficially opened the season with the return of Haunted Hoops at the WVU Coliseum on Sunday … WVU hosted West Virginia Wesleyan in an exhibition game … the Mountaineers downed the Bobcats 113-54 … senior forward Teana Muldrow led all scorers with 28 points, shooting 12-of-16 … junior guard Katrina Pardee had a team-best eight rebounds … senior guard Chania Ray led all players with nine assists and seven steals.

Coach Mike Carey following Sunday's exhibition against West Virginia Wesleyan: "Big numbers don't matter. You can look at the box score. We scored 42 points in the first quarter when we were fresh. Then as the game went on, a bunch of turnovers and no execution. People came off of the bench, standing around, the defense didn't execute on the other end. It's going to be like that all year unless we start getting people back in the rotation."
