MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University junior Ginny Thrasher will represent the United States at the 2017 International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup Final for Rifle/Pistol, this week at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range, in New Delhi, India.
A native of Springfield, Virginia, Thrasher will compete in the women's 10m air rifle competition on Thursday, Oct. 26. The final is set for 2:30 a.m. EST.
Thrasher is the United States' lone rifle competitor shooting at the invitation-only match. She earned her spot via her Gold Medal finish at the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics. Last year, Thrasher claimed Bronze in the same event at the ISSF World Cup Final in Bologna, Italy. It was her first career World Cup medal.
A six-time All-American, Thrasher had a record day in Morgantown prior to departing for India, shooting a winning, career-high matching air rifle score of 599 on Saturday, Oct. 21, at the WVU Rifle Range. She led the Mountaineers to an NCAA record air rifle mark of 2392, and WVU defeated Ole Miss, 4739-4647. Thrasher also won smallbore with a 590 score.
