Sear in Top 10 at Tavistock Invite

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Max Sear has moved into the top 10 on the individual leaderboard to pace the West Virginia University golf team through the second round of the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational at Isleworth Golf and Country Club in Windermere, Florida, on Monday.
Entering the day tied for 11th at one under par, Sear registered a trio of birdies to shoot one under par with a 71. He jumped four spots over and sits in a tie for seventh place with a score of 71-71=142 for tow under par.
The Mountaineers shot 300 as a team, totaling 296-300=596 for 20 over par through 36 holes. They slipped one spot to 16th place in the team standings. No. 28 Illinois continues to sit atop the team leaderboard at 11 under par with a 565. No. 10 Florida is second at nine under par with a 567, while No. 21 Cal has moved into third at two-under par (574).
"I'm really proud of the way we closed out the round after a rough start," WVU coach Sean Covich said. "Especially Etienne. Max continued to play solid. Overall, we have a chance to move up tomorrow with a good final round."
Competing as an individual, Avery Schneider carded a 73 to finish one over on the day with four birdies on the back nine. He boasts a 36-hole total of 74-73=147 for three over and moved up 13 spots to tie for 34th place.
After starting on No. 10, Etienne Papineau struggled prior to the turn but later rebounded with a birdie for a 78. He carries a three-round total of 72-78=150 for six over par. Papineau enters the third round of play in 52nd place, where he is joined by individual Logan Perkins. Perkins scorecard also shows 72-78=150 for six over.
Philipp Matlari finished four over par to move to eight over through 36 holes at 76-76=152. He slipped one spot to end the second round tied for 64th place. Teammate Matthew Sharpstene is a stroke back at 78-75=153, tying for 71st place at eight-over par.
Drew Dewald and Mark Goetz, both playing as individuals, are tied for 80th place with matching scores of 79-76=155. Both are 11 over. Tristan Nicholls is 16 over at 77-83=160 and tied for 88th place.
West Virginia will be paired North Texas and two-time national champion Augusta for Tuesday's final round. The Mountaineers will tee off of No. 10 starting at 9:45 a.m. WVU individuals will also go off of No. 10 starting at 8:55 a.m.
