MORGANTOWN, W.Va – Two members of the West Virginia University women's tennis team, senior Lyn Yuen Choo and junior Paula Goetz, will travel to Blacksburg, Virginia, to compete at the ITA Atlantic Regional Championships from Oct. 13-16.
Student-athletes from 25 different schools in the Atlantic region will compete at the ITA Regionals over the course of the tournament. All matches will take place at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on Virginia Tech's campus.
Goetz will begin the regionals for the Mountaineers when she takes on Abby Amos of James Madison in the qualifiers on Friday at 9 a.m.
The duo of Choo and Goetz will begin the doubles main draw with a tilt against Rebekah Anderson and Ashley Bongart of Liberty on Friday at 3 p.m. The winner of the match will take on ninth-seeded Ines Milosevic and Gabby O'Gorman, who sports a first round bye.
On Saturday, Choo is slated to take on Emma Petersen of James Madison in the singles main draw.
"Paula and Lyn Yuen will have a very good opportunity this weekend to play in the regional tournament in singles and doubles," coach Miha Lisac said. "It will be a good continuation for them from last weekend's tournament. They have both showed some good things in singles and doubles."
Last weekend, Goetz finished the Viking Invitational with a 2-1 record in singles play. Choo also won two-of-three in singles play to begin the fall season. The pair also competed in one doubles match together last weekend, besting Antonella Bramato and Alexia Coutino of Cincinnati, 7-5.
"Our main focus will be to build upon that and get better and more consistent. In terms of execution and in terms of the way we compete," Lisac noted. "It will be a good opportunity for them to do that."
In addition to the ITA Regionals, WVU freshman Giovanna Caputo will also compete in the USTA Pro Circuit 25K this weekend in Florence, South Carolina. Caputo will begin play on Sunday.
"Giovanna will travel to a USTA Pro Circuit, which is another good opportunity for her to get good matches in over the weekend," Lisac said. "She has been performing well so far, and I am excited to see how she is going to do at that tournament."
