Anthony Livingston's 3-point field goal with six seconds left lifted Texas Tech to an 77-76 overtime victory over seventh-ranked West Virginia Tuesday night at United Supermarkets Arena in Lubbock, Texas.

It is the first regular season win for the Red Raiders over the Mountaineers since they joined the Big 12 in 2012. Tech's only victory against West Virginia since then came in the first round of the 2013 Big 12 tournament when WVU finished its season with a 13-19 record.

Zach Smith led Tech with 15 points while Niem Stevenson contributed 13 and a game-high eight rebounds.

West Virginia (12-2, 1-1) had trouble all night stopping Tech's dribble penetration and was also victimized by fouls, the Mountaineers sending the Red Raiders to the free throw line 30 times where they made 24.

Meanwhile, WVU didn't help itself when it got to the foul line, West Virginia converting just 13 out of 24 for 54.2 percent.

West Virginia's full-court pressure defense turned Tech over just 13 times - one fewer than the Mountaineers' 14 for the game.

The Red Raiders shot 51 percent from the field, including 53.8 percent from 3-point distance.

There were 21 lead changes with the game's biggest lead being seven points - that by West Virginia with 17:13 to go when Daxter Miles Jr. converted a driving layup off a feed from Nathan Adrian. But Texas Tech erased that within a span of five minutes when the Mountaineers went ice cold from the floor.

Texas Tech's scoreless spell came near the end of regulation after Justin Gray's layup with 2:20 left put the Red Raiders ahead by five, 67-62.

Lamont West's two free throws reduced Tech's lead to three, and then Adrian banged in a 3 with seven seconds left to tie the game at 67.

Shadell Millinghaus tried to win it for Tech in regulation but his 3 was off the mark just ahead of the horn.

In overtime, missed free throws by Tarik Phillip, Miles Jr., Esa Ahmad and Adrian - six in all - kept Tech in position to get the upset.

Two Jevon Carter free throws pushed West Virginia's lead to three, 70-67, but two at the other end by Aaron Ross and then a turnaround jumper by Smith gave the lead back to Texas Tech, 71-70.

Ahmad followed with his two misses at the line before Phillip was able to get two to go down with 2:15 left, putting WVU back ahead, 72-71.

Stevenson answered with a 3 - his second - to make it 74-72. Then, Adrian could only get one of two to go down from the line before Phillip followed a Devon Thomas miss with a 3 to put West Virginia ahead, 76-74, with 33 seconds remaining.

The Red Raiders came down and worked to get into position for a late shot, with Livingston taking it off a feed from Stevenson.

Carter had a chance to win the game for West Virginia at the other end but he couldn't get his 3 to go down with one second left.

Ahmad led West Virginia with 13 points, but all 13 of those came in the first half. Carter scored 11 while Adrian and West contributed 10 each.

The Mountaineers return to the Coliseum to face 12-2 TCU on Saturday afternoon at the WVU Coliseum. The Horned Frogs evened their Big 12 record to 1-1 with a 60-57 win over Oklahoma earlier tonight. TCU nearly knocked off third-ranked Kansas in coach Jamie Dixon's league debut last Friday night.

Saturday's game will tip off at 1 p.m.
