Shaker, Jordan Head to Pre-Qualifiers

MORGANTOWN, W.Va – Two members of the West Virginia University women’s tennis team, junior Habiba Shaker and freshman Christina Jordan, will travel to Pacific Palisade, California to compete in the 2016 Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships from October 1-9, on the campus of Pepperdine University.
“It’s a great opportunity for Habiba and Christina to travel to the All-American Championships,” fourth-year coach Miha Lisac said. “They will compete against the best players in the country so this is a great opportunity for them to further their game and compete at a high level.”
Shaker will compete in singles, where she will start at the pre-qualifiers level of the tournament. Pre-qualifiers will be held on October 1-2 and consist of 64 players from around the country. The top eight players will advance to the qualifiers stage of the tournament.
After a one day break, the tournament will resume on October 4-5 with the qualifying round. In all, 64 student-athletes will be competing for eight spots to advance to the main draw.
The main draw, will be held over a four-day span. The top 32 players from across the country will battle for a chance to be named the 2016 Riviera/ITA All-American Champion.
The tandem of Jordan and Shaker, will compete in doubles for the Mountaineers. Like singles, the duo will start in the pre-qualifying stage where 32 doubles teams will battle for four spots. Should they advance, the duo will compete at qualifiers, where the top four teams will advance to the main draw. The main draw will consist of 32 doubles pairs who will compete until a champion is named. Shaker and Jordan are 2-2 in the 2016 fall season.
