MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Fresh off a Big 12 road win at Texas Tech, the West Virginia University volleyball team will welcome TCU to the WVU Coliseum on Wednesday in a 6 p.m. league tilt.
Admission for all home WVU volleyball matches this season is free to the public. Fans can also follow along with a free livestream on WVUsports.com.
The Mountaineers (9-6, 1-1) are coming off a 3-0 sweep of the Red Raiders last weekend in Lubbock, marking the squad’s first Big 12 win since 2014 and the first Big 12 win for WVU head coach Reed Sunahara. West Virginia’s last conference win was a 3-2 upset of Kansas State on Nov. 29, 2014.
“Our players played well,” said Sunahara, who is in his second season in Morgantown. “Any time you can get a win on the road is great. It was a good way to get our first “W” and get one on the road.”
The Horned Frogs (9-3, 2-0) topped Iowa State, 3-2, on Sunday in Ames, Iowa. TCU is coached by former WVU coach Jill Kramer.
Wednesday’s tilt is the first match of a four-game homestand for the Mountaineers. The team will host Iowa State on Friday before welcoming Oklahoma to the Coliseum for back-to-back matches next week. Since joining the Big 12 in 2012, the Mountaineers are 31-32 overall and 6-26 in league matches inside the WVU Coliseum.
For the third time this season, Payton Caffrey earned league honors as she was tabbed the Big 12’s Co-Rookie of the Week. It’s the second straight Big 12 honor for freshman outside hitter, who has also been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week on two occasions this season. Caffrey currently ranks second in the Big 12 in kills per set (4.95), points per set (5.57) and service aces (0.40). She sits sixth amongst Division I players in kills per set and points per set and is seventh in both total kills (292) and total points (306.5).
Mia Swanegan continues to lead the Big 12 in blocking, averaging 1.40 blocks per set. This week, she also led the league in service aces after scoring a career-best three against the Red Raiders. The junior middle blocker is currently 24th in the nation in blocks per set and 32nd in total blocks (70). Swanegan spent her freshman season at TCU.
