MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Free admission, as well as several pre- and post-match events, highlight the West Virginia University volleyball team’s promotional schedule for the 2016 home season.
Due to construction in the WVU Coliseum, all 12 of the Mountaineers’ home matches, as well as the three neutral site matches that are part of the WVU Invitational, will be free of charge to fans. It should be noted that the WVU Coliseum concourse will be accessible but will not have permanent restrooms or concession stands. Portable concessions sales points will be offered along the concourse. Portable restrooms will be available on the exterior apron surrounding the Coliseum on game days.
“We appreciate our fans’ interest in our program, particularly in the midst of ongoing renovations to the WVU Coliseum,” said Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs Matt Wells. “We are offering free admission to all home volleyball contests as a way of thanking them for their patience and support of this project.”
In honor of head coach and Hawaii native Reed Sunahara, the Mountaineer Maniacs will host a luau for all student fans when West Virginia hosts Texas in its Big 12 opening match on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 6 p.m. The group will also have a free tank top giveaway for Maniac members. Fans are encouraged to wear Hawaiian shirts or their best luau gear.
In addition to hosting Iowa State on Friday, Sept. 30, at 6 p.m., the Mountaineers will also host a book drive for Morgantown Public Library System and Monongalia County’s Read Aloud program. Children’s books will be collected at the gate prior to the game.
WVU will host Oklahoma on Friday, Oct. 7, for its annual Dig Pink match, sponsored by WVU Medicine, at 6 p.m. The Mountaineers will don pink jerseys for the tilt, and WVU Medicine will be giving away pink WVU t-shirts to fans who make a donation.
Prior to the 3:30 p.m. match against Baylor on Oct. 15, Sunahara and company will host a free youth clinic for players in grades eight and under. Attendees will receive admission to a private autograph and selfie session with the Mountaineers following the contest. The first 500 fans at the match will receive a free water bottle courtesy of Coca-Cola.
Fan Appreciation Day will take place Saturday, Oct. 29, when Texas Tech travels to Morgantown for a 3:30 p.m. match. Each fan will receive five tickets for a five-prize giveaway that includes a Fitbit and a Netflix gift card, among other items.
The Mountaineers close out their home slate on Wednesday, Nov. 16, when they square off against Kansas at 6 p.m. Seniors Hannah Shreve, Haley Roe and MaTia Hughes will be honored as part of the team’s annual Senior Night celebration.
In addition, WVU will have autograph sessions following matches against Texas (Sept. 20), Iowa State (Sept. 30) and Kansas (Nov. 16).
