MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Thirty-five women across the sports industry have been selected for recognition this fall as part of SportsBusiness Journal’s annual Game Changers program.
Game Changers, which debuted in 2011, recognizes women in the industry who have broad, deep and varied responsibilities and who are contributing to the success of the industry in multiple ways.
West Virginia University’s Deputy Athletic Director Keli Cunningham has been named a SBJ Game Changer for 2016 for her involvement in intercollege athletics. Cunningham is responsible for assisting the director of athletics in the daily operations of the administration and management of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. She serves as the primary liaison to the University’s central administration and manages the human resources functions of the athletics department in addition to providing oversight of the athletic compliance unit, serving as the sport administrator for women’s soccer and assisting the director of athletics in the management of the football program.
These 35 women will be featured in the Sept. 12 issue of SportsBusiness Journal. They also will be celebrated on Thursday, Sept. 15, in New York at the annual Game Changers: Women in Sports Business Conference.
This year’s Game Changers conference will feature panel discussions on a range of subjects that includes the growing role of women in sports business, how organizations are striving for greater diversity in hiring and career advancement, and the next generation of sports business leadership. Featured interviews will be conducted with Lisa Borders, WNBA president; Adrienne Lofton, Under Armour senior vice president of global brand marketing; and Jennifer Rudolph Walsh, WME partner.
In addition, a special breakfast roundtable will have a discussion on career development: the importance of networking, mentor/mentee roles, and finding opportunities for growth within a company.
