Campriani Takes Seventh in Men's Prone

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Former West Virginia University rifle National Champion Nicco Campriani finished seventh today in the men’s 50m rifle prone at the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics at the Olympic Shooting Centre, located inside Deodoro Park, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Competing in his second final of the week, Campriani, a three-time Olympic medalist and two-time Olympic champion, tallied a 102.8 mark in the final. The Florence, Italy, native finished sixth in the qualifier with a 625.3 total.
A 2011 WVU graduate, Campriani earned his second finals bid just four days after claiming the Gold medal in the men’s 10m air rifle on Aug. 8. The 2011 NCAA air rifle champion, he previously earned Silver in the event at the 2012 London Summer Olympics.
A shooter with ties to the WVU rifle program has qualified for each of the rifle events at the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics, with just the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions competition remaining. Sophomore Ginny Thrasher (USA) earned Gold in the women’s 10m air rifle on Aug. 6, and Campriani followed with his win in the men’s event. Additionally, 2013 graduate Petra Zublasing (Italy) finished fourth in the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions on Aug. 11.
The defending Olympic Champion, Campriani shoots for his second career Gold medal in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions on Sunday, Aug. 14. The qualification relay will begin at 8 a.m. ET, and the final will follow at noon.
