Slinde came to WVU this spring semester to prepare for the upcoming season.
“It was hard to graduate early from high school, coming here the second semester and having to start right away with spring training, but looking back it was worth it,” Slinde said.
The 6-foot setter has adjusted well to WVU and has bonded with her new teammates and coaches.
“I wanted to come somewhere where I trusted the coaches, the teammates, and the university and that they had my back,” Slinde said. “As soon as I came here, I knew I was going to be taken care of. It felt like a family environment.”
Slinde is eager to learn how to play in the atmosphere of the Big 12 Conference.
“I’m excited to see the level of play, how I react to it, how fast I catch on, and how I’m able to learn different things. I’m nervous, but I’m pretty confident that I’ll learn and adjust pretty well,” Slinde mentioned.
One of Slinde’s goals is to develop a new team culture for the Mountaineers. The start of the 2016 season provides a fresh start for the girls. With more team camaraderie, she wants to bring a positive and welcoming feel to the program.
“We want to attract more recruits and more people that want to be here,” Slide said.
As for individual goals, the Rosemount, Minnesota native wants to start off her college career on a strong foot, whether she is on or off the court.
“No matter what my role is, I want to be confident in it and what I’m doing. I want to be improving and getting better every day,” Slinde stated.
Slinde has been playing volleyball ever since she was in middle school. She started on a small club team that was coached by her mom. She has had a big influence in contributing to her growth as a player.
“I’ve always looked up to my mom. She’s a volleyball coach and she’s always been my idol,” Slinde mentioned. “I’ve always tried to be like her. She knows all the right things to say and do.”
Slinde is really looking forward to her journey as a Mountaineer and hopes to make many memories along the way.
“It’s a good place to be,” Slinde mentioned. “It’s my home away from home.”
