WVU Concludes 122nd-Annual Penn Relays

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University track and field team completed day two of the 122nd-annual Penn Relays on Friday, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, at Franklin Field.
“We had a nice weekend at Penn,” said coach Sean Cleary. “I was happy with the effort put forward by the group. Penn Relays is simply about competing when the weather is cold and windy. I feel we did a good job with the opportunities presented to us. For the most part, this is the last opportunity for the team to compete before the Big 12 Championship. We will now concentrate on school and prepare for the championship.”
Competing at the prestigious Penn Relays for the sixth consecutive year, West Virginia was represented by sophomore Shamoya McNeil on Friday after four Mountaineers competed yesterday in addition to a relay team.
McNeil competed in the women’s college triple jump championship, capturing a top-five finish. She placed fifth in the event with a mark of 12.60 meters.
On the first day of the Penn Relays, the Mountaineers’ distance medley relay team posted a top-three finish, and the team added a top-six finish in the women’s college long jump.
WVU’s distance medley relay team consisted of juniors Brianna Kerekes and Amy Cashin and sophomores Bria Welker and Rebecca Wendt. The team crossed the finish line in third place with a time of 11:50.96.
Freshman Danique Bryan placed sixth in the women’s college long jump with a mark of 5.64 meters.
Two weeks from now, the Mountaineers will head to Fort Worth, Texas, to compete for the Big 12 title at the 2016 Big 12 Outdoor Championship from May 13-14.
