Levak moved to Morgantown in January from Pazin, Croatia, and has instantly bonded with her teammates. Since becoming a Mountaineer, Levak has felt right at home.
“They accepted me right away,” Levak said. “I feel like I came into a family.”
Levak believes that the strong friendship that the players have will be something that helps them once they get into the season. Team chemistry is crucial to working together on the court.
Coming into the Big 12 Conference, Levak is longing for the season to begin. With the opportunity to play in a strong conference, the Big 12 will allow to her to pursue her dream of becoming a professional volleyball player and potentially receiving some honors.
“I want to be able to get freshman of the week honors a couple of times,” Levak stated.
Even though the 6-foot-1 middle blocker has been practicing with the team for three months, she is learning a new position. She has started training to become a right side hitter. A new challenge that Levak faces is playing defense and transitioning with the change of pace.
“When I play middle blocker everything is fast and now it’s slow, so I have to work on my tempo,” Levak mentioned.
Although one of Levak’s goals is to become a professional volleyball player, she did not always play the sport. She had been a dancer for six years until one day it all changed. At fourteen, a volleyball coach had seen her height and immediately invited her to check out a practice. Levak fell in love with the sport and decided to pursue a new passion. She is the first in her family to play volleyball, but her younger sister has also chosen to take up the sport.
Volleyball has greatly impacted Levak’s life. The sport has provided her with a mental getaway when things get tough.
“When I play, all of my worries disappear,” Levak stated. “It gives me comfort. I just love it.”
Levak’s journey is just beginning at West Virginia University and Morgantown has been the perfect fit for her.
“It feels like home,” said Levak.
