The No. 22-ranked Mountaineers face No. 6/7 Texas (27-3) for the third time this season. The Longhorns swept the regular-season series with a 65-54 win in Morgantown on Dec. 30 and a 73-50 victory in Austin on Feb. 21. The last matchup was in the 2014 Big 12 Championship semifinals when WVU won, 67-60, in Oklahoma City to advance to the title game.
“We didn't play well there (on Feb. 21) and we didn't compete. And Texas, give them credit, they took it right to us,” coach Mike Carey said. “We've got a lot to show and makeup and it's going to be a great battle. There is no doubt in my mind we will come out and compete. I think it will be a great game for fans to watch. Texas will be ready to play and we will, too.”
WVU has advanced to 16 conference tournament semifinals, including seven under coach Carey. A victory on Sunday would give West Virginia its fifth berth to a conference title game and its second in the last three seasons.
Bria Holmes paces the Mountaineers with 16.7 points per game. The senior is 54 points away from becoming the third Mountaineer to reach the 2,000-point plateau. She is the Big 12’s active career scoring leader with 1,946 points.
Martin, the Big 12 Freshman of the Year, is averaging 10.1 points per game. Martin has reached double-digits in six of the last seven contests. Muldrow leads the Big 12 with a 46.6 three-point field goal percentage, while Lanay Montgomery is tied for the league’s best field goal percentage at 62.2 percent.
The Longhorns advanced to the conference semifinals with a 66-50 over No. 10-seed Kansas on Saturday. UT ranks 14th nationally with a +10.2 rebounding margin. Texas is averaging 71.1 points per game, while limiting opponents to 55.1 points per contest.

The winner of Sunday’s contest will face the winner of the No. 1-seed Baylor vs. No. 5-seed Oklahoma game in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship final on Monday, March 7. Tipoff for that contest is slated for 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT.
