Holmes Named WBCA All-Region

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University senior guard Bria Holmes was named Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All-Region 3, as announced by the organization on Wednesday.
Holmes, a native of New Haven, Connecticut, is one of 52 candidates for the 10-member WBCA Division I Coaches’ All-America Team. The WBCA All-Region honor is the second for Holmes after earning the accolade last season and garnering All-America Honorable Mention. The All-America list will be released next week at the NCAA Women’s Basketball Final Four in Indianapolis.
This season, Holmes led West Virginia with 16.8 points and 3.7 assists per game. Holmes tallied 589 points and grabbed 145 rebounds in 35 contests. She became the first Mountaineer to score 500 or more points in three consecutive seasons.
With her 21 points against Ohio State on Sunday, Holmes became the third Mountaineer in program history to reach the 2,000-point plateau. A three-time unanimous All-Big 12 First Team selection, she is the Big 12’s active career scoring leader with 2,001 points.
Other WBCA All-Region 3 candidates include: Imani Boyette (Texas), Nina Davis (Baylor), Moriah Jefferson (Connecticut), Niya Johnson (Baylor), Alexis Jones (Baylor), Brittney Martin (Oklahoma State), Breanna Stewart (Connecticut), Morgan Tuck (Connecticut) and Courtney Williams (South Florida).
