MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – For the second consecutive year, senior Andrew Marsh of the West Virginia University swimming team will compete at the 2016 NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships from March 23-26 in Atlanta, Georgia.
Hosted by Georgia Tech, the meet will be held at the McAuley Aquatic Center. Live results can be found at swmeets.com. A live stream of all the action and more championships information can be found at RamblinWreck.com. Additionally, ESPN3.com will stream the finals on Friday and Saturday, and ESPNU will air a two-hour show at on Wednesday, April 8, at 5 p.m., ET.
Marsh met the NCAA qualifying time standards in three events to earn a spot at the 2016 NCAA Championships. He is seeded No. 6 nationally among 54 invited swimmers in the 100 backstroke and he is seeded 19th in the 100 freestyle and No. 64 in the 50 freestyle.
“We are very excited about this week,” coach Vic Riggs said. “Andrew has put himself in a great position, and now it’s time to just race. He’s trained very well this season and the past month for this moment in his career. Every swimmer at this week has done the same to reach this level. Now it’s about making the most of the opportunity in front of you, and making it happen. Andrew has had that motivation since last year at NCAAs, and it’s time to use that and see what he can accomplish.”
A total of 270 male student-athletes (235 swimmers and 35 divers) will compete at NCAAs.
The first day of competition begins on Wednesday with the 800 freestyle relay at 6 p.m. ET. The following three days, prelims will begin at 10 a.m. before finals at 6 p.m. Marsh will begin competition on Thursday, March 24 with the 50 freestyle. Friday he will compete in the 100 backstroke, and wrap up competition on Saturday with the 100 freestyle.
In 2015, Marsh competed at his first NCAA Championships, earning qualifying times in the 100 butterfly, 100 backstroke and 100 freestyle. The Bemus Point, New York, native, finished 24th in the prelims of the 100 backstroke in 46.56 and finished 41st in the 100 butterfly in 47.29.
