MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University women’s basketball team finished No. 23 in the final Associated Press Top 25 Poll and tied for No. 25 with St. John’s in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches’ Top 25 poll.
After being picked to finish sixth in the Big 12 this season, West Virginia finished 24-9 overall and 12-6 in Big 12 play to place third in the league. The Mountaineers reached the semifinal round of the Big 12 Championship in Oklahoma City last week.
This is the sixth week that West Virginia has appeared in the AP poll. The Mountaineers were ranked No. 25 on Jan. 18, No. 24 on Jan. 25, No. 24 on Feb. 8, No. 22 on Feb. 29 and No. 23 on March 7. There are three other Big 12 programs represented in the Top 25: No. 4 Baylor, No. 7 Texas and No. 24 Oklahoma.
WVU makes its first appearance in the coaches poll this season and the first since being ranked No. 25 on January 6, 2015. Other Big 12 teams in the poll include No. 4 Baylor, No. 7 Texas and No. 23 Oklahoma.
After a week off, West Virginia will learn its postseason destination this evening. The NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship bracket will be announced Monday, March 14 at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.
